2009 Season Schedule


Results October 26 - 30

8th Grade:

The Purple team survived the all out attack from McDonald Panthers last night.  
McDonald shocked the Mavericks scoring first and holding the lead until the end of
the 3rd Quarter.  Our first score didn’t come until Ej Achelus scored just before
half but Jose Reyes wasn’t able to make the extra point going into the half down 6-
8.  The end of the third quarter opened up when EJ scored 2 more touchdowns
and two more extra points from Jose Reyes before the final horn sealing the 22-8
victory for the Mavericks.   Damian Espinoza, Andrew Sheppard, Carlos Maza,
Mark Simon, Andrew Caal, and David Remington were outstanding defensive
players of the night.  Offensively, Ej Achelus,  Brandon Wiltz and Keevan Lando
were able to run free behind Christian Vazquez, David Remington, Wyatt Reeves,
Mark Simon, Damian Espinoza, and Calief Williams.  The Purple team ends the
season with a perfect record of 7-0 scoring 160 points.  Next week’s playoff game
will be against Beckendorff at a site to be determined later.
The entire 8th grade Maverick teams have finished with at total record of 19-1-1
scoring a total of 382 points and only having 115 points scored against them.

The Gold team  concluded its regular season Tuesday night against the Panthers
of McDonald.  The game was a defensive battle with big hits by Ryan Hermes,
Avery Ross, and Edmond Williams.  Jorge Nicasio stopped a Panther drive with an
interception giving the Mavericks back the ball.   The Offense was led by Rick
Garcia, with big runs by Ed Williams and Brett Kinney.  Rick Garcia connected with
Avery Ross for a long catch and run giving the Mavericks their only score of the
game.  Final score MRJH 6 MDJH 6.   The Gold team finished the regular season
with a 5-1-1 record, 145 points scored and only 14 points allowed.  Next week the
gold team will have their rematch against the Katy Tigers for the district
championship.

The Maverick team lost a close non-district game to Katy Jr. High last night 0-
12.  The Mavs came out flat and did not play Maverick football.  The Mavs hope to
rebound next week as they play for the District Championship.

Defensively the D-line was strong with Alexis Rodriguez, Christian Marocelli,
Brendan Taylor, David Hopperdietzel, Emilson Ramirez, Ernesto Martinez, and
Aarron Davila rotating in.  

Offensively, Jerrode Delva had a strong running performance led by the blocking
of Justin Lopez.  Torrean Thomas helped create the only turnover by playing great
defense.

Special Teams were led by Martin Montoya, Paul Arredondo, and Jorge Perez.



7th  grade

The Purple Team defeated the McDonald Panthers 30-0.

Maverick Hustle award: Alvin Hall and  Oczaveus Williams


Gold Team lost to McDonald Junior high 20 to 6.  Highlight of game occurred
when Blake Maxfeldt threw a 30 yard pass to Asthon Summers to score a
touchdown in the second quarter.  On defensive Byron Wiltz lead the team with
several tackles keep the Panthers from running on his side.
